Dear AMROA Members, As the year winds down, there are a few things we want to share with you. In May, our booth at the League of Municipalities Convention was a success. We had several representatives from numerous cities stop by to chat, visit and learn more about AMROA. Many thanks and appreciation goes to the AMROA members who manned the booth (Kathy Woodard, Haley Burford, Pat Hyland, Jack Young and yours truly). A special appreciation to the Montgomery group (Charles Wilson & Faye Comer) for storing, updating and safely delivering the booth materials to the Convention. Some interesting bills popped up during this recent Legislative Session that we encouraged you to stay abreast of. Thanks to Jarrod Simmons and others who immediately alerted us of the ones we needed to pay close attention to and act upon. As a result of your letters, calls and emails to your senators and representatives and lobbyists, HB567 (Prescription Drugs) and SB450 (Sales on Food Tax) did not pass this session. Our next major event and final culmination for this fiscal year is the Summer Conference to be held July 8-10, 2009 at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile, Alabama. We have planned an exciting educational and event filled conference. If you have not already done so please register for the conference and reserve your hotel room immediately. You will not want to miss this event. An educational program filled with current Revenue topics will be presented. A golf tournament has been planned for Wednesday afternoon chaired by Bill Fetner. You may contact him @ 251-981-6782 for details. A tour of the City of Mobile Revenue Department along with a Casino Bus Trip will be Wednesday afternoon. The tour will be from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. and the Casino Bus will leave the hotel at 6:00 p.m. (Boarding at 5:30 p.m.). This trip will include refreshments and prizes for only $10.00 per person. An email blast will be sent with instructions for the trip. A Hospitality Suite will be available for networking purposes on Wednesday night. On Thursday, after a full day of classes and the banquet, a band will be performing Mardi Gras style for your entertaining pleasure. We will close out the Conference with Friday morning classes and door prizes. As always, don’t forget to bring an item representing your city for door prizes. See you in July!
Sincerely, Gwendolyn P. Hall AMROA President 2008-2009
