HISTORY

Message from the President

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Alabama Municipal Revenue Officers Association (AMROA) Website. Our goals and objectives are to promote the professional development of Municipal employees and to equip them to become more efficient and effective in the performance of their duties and obligations to their respective cities and communities. Helping them to develop and learn new techniques of collecting and administering revenues to keep their communities growing and thriving. When revenue streams dry up, cities do as well. So, it’s with this in mind that we strive to provide our members with the most up to date information possible. Keeping them informed of any new or pending legislation or laws affecting their communities.

We maintain constant communication with our Legislative Members in an effort to stay abreast of the latest and most up to date information possible. Laws are passed each year that affect our ability to maintain our cities in a healthy and thriving capacity. We want to make sure we are doing our part to provide the absolute best and up to date information possible so that our members can provide the most efficient and effective service to their communities.

We try to accomplish this through our conferences and training sessions that take place several times a year. We have two Certification and Training Sessions each Spring (April), and Fall (October) at the University of Alabama Campus through the College of Continuing Studies. We also have two Conferences each year. Our Summer Conference is usually held during the months of June, July, or August, and the current President of the Association chooses the location. Our Winter Conference is held on the campus of Auburn University in December through the Center of Governmental Services. The Summer Conference for 2015 is slated for Tuscaloosa, AL. Further details will be posted on our website as they become finalized.

We also have a number of resources that are invaluable to us, and they are as follows:

1. The College of Continuing Studies at the University of Alabama, who oversee our Certification and Training Program.

2. The Center of Governmental Services at Auburn University, who oversee our Winter Conference and Training Program.

3.     The Alabama League of Municipalities, under the direction of Ken Smith.

4.     The National Bureau of Business Licensing Officials (NBBLO)

5.     The Association’s Listserv – It allows our members to communicate with one another as individuals, or as a group. To pose questions and receive answers within minutes from all over the State.

6.     Renewable Systems, Inc. – Peggy Grubbs, Past President of AMROA

7.     The Alabama Law School

8.     Sponsors of our program:

A.     ALABAMA MUNICIPAL FUNDING CORPORATION – Greg Cochran

B.     HOLLON ACCOUNTING SERVICES, INC. – Greg Hollon

C.     LOCAL GOVERNMENT CORPORATION – Randy Marks & Bruce Collier

D.     RIVERTREE SYSTEMS, INC. – Jim Thomas

9.     AMROA MEMBERS – The membership is our greatest resource, because we can help each other be our best.

Education and training are key elements for our continued success, so don’t be afraid of new ideas and techniques. Learning and implementing is what we do. As you learn and grow, be sure to share your knowledge with your colleagues across the State, so we all can be the best that we can for our organization, cities, and communities.

Our organization’s success is dependent upon us working together to accomplish common goals and objectives. Let’s do our utmost best to keep our organization strong and informed.

You have bestowed your trust in me to lead this organization for the year of 2014-2015, and I plan to make it the most memorable and productive year that I can.

Sincerely,

Vincent L. Brown

President 2014-2015
